Anthrocodex is an archaeology program about the discovery and appreciation of literature. Each episode focuses on a region of the world, and an unusual or unexpected form of literature found there. Usually this means a record, or long-standing body of myths, legends, or history, which is recorded and retrieved in a non-traditional way. In other words, it is a program about forms of literature which might not look like literature at first, but which readers of World Literature would like to know about.
The host Michael Merriam interviews authors, audiences, and when appropriate, invites the Anthrocodex audience with him to attend out-of-the-way performances.
